Jam Happend
I set out to spend a day jamming musically and actually making jam, I also had visions of starting some pickling. You know with 4 kids and not long out of hospital after two back surgeries this was a big ask, well slightly to big.
Two days late, towards the end of the day and strawberries picked (750g) In-between the madness of 4 kids home from school, playing power rangers and me waiting for the first tears of the day.
I started the jam to end all jams, or my guts if i messed up. Strawberries were washed and hulled out then chopped into quarters, Dried and popped in a big pan.
Sugar 1kg (jam sugar) popped in the pot and the juice of one lemon.
At this point pop the heat on and bring to the boil, then i simmered it for about 8 minutes.
I found my self skimming through the internet to find out what it should look like or how to test. Good old Mary Berry! I by chance had a plate in the freezer, i took a small spoonful onto the plate and let it sit for a minute. Like a true troll i then dragged my finger through it and it crinkled and stayed put (setting point)
Before this all began I had washed my kilner jars up and popped then in the oven at 130/140, the lids in a pan of boiling water as they have rubber rings.
The Jam had been sitting after simmering for around 10 mins, so i removed the jars from the oven.
Whilst the jars were still hot i poured the jam into each of them and let the rest for another 10 mins with the lid loosely on. After this time i tightened them all up and left them to cool down.
And yeah it tastes GOOOOD, Something so so so simple why don't you try?
